  • Ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBS or GGBFS) is obtained by quenching molten iron slag (a by-product of iron and steel-making) from a blast furnace in water or steam, to produce a glassy, granular product that is then dried and ground into a fine powder.
  • GGBS is widely used in the cement industry to make slag cement. The usage of GGBS in concrete results in a stronger and more durable structure.

Benefits of using GGBS in Concrete

  • Improves durability and thermal resistance
  • Lowers the heat of hydration and minimizes the formation of thermal cracks
  • Results in high compressive strength that surpasses the OPC 53 grade strength requirement
  • Improves the workability of concrete
  • Increases the impermeability of concrete hence making it more resistant to atmospheric pollutants
  • Provides higher degree resistance to chloride ingress, sulfates, and other chemicals
  • Reduces the risk of damages caused by alkali-silica reaction (ASR)
  • Reduces the embodied energy of a project
  • Eco-friendly
